Stream C

Stream C is an expansion of a long-standing joint program between the University of Winnipeg (UW) and Red River College (RRC). By combining the resources of both institutions, students are able to earn both RRC’s two-year diploma in Early Childhood Education (ECE) and UW’s three-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Developmental Studies (Child Development and Child Care) in a four-year period of full-time study. The program is particularly designed for those who wish to pursue the area of early childhood development and who seek certification as an Early Childhood Educator III under the regulations of Manitoba Family Services and Labour.
Stream C is a professional program designed for those who wish to obtain advanced early childhood education training. The program will prepare graduates for a variety of positions, including child-care specialists who function as directors, supervisors and early childhood educators; and staff specializing in programs for the developmentally delayed and other special needs children.
Entrance Requirements
All students wishing to enter Stream C must first make formal application for admission to UW, and then be selected for entry into the Child Development and Child Care program. Space is restricted in this stream. The selection process will be competitively based on academic and professional qualifications, experience, and areas of interest.
Applicants choosing may enter the program at UW through one of two routes:
Category A: Applicants holding a two-tear Early Childhood Education Diploma or an equivalent diploma from another community college.
Category B: Applicants entering from high school or the workforce.
All students wishing to enter Stream C by either of the above routes must first make formal application for admission to UW and must be approved for entry. The selection process is based on academic and professional qualifications.
